Location: District Umerkot (Village Samaro Road and Village Bodar Farm), Sindh
Project Description:
Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, fasting, and community, but for many families living in poverty, it also brings heightened anxiety about how to provide sufficient food for sehri and iftar. In 2022, UKMAP partnered with CDRS to support vulnerable families in rural Umerkot District, Sindh.
Food packs containing staple items such as flour, rice, pulses, cooking oil, sugar, and dates were distributed to families identified as most in need by local partners and community leaders. The focus was on those least able to afford additional food during Ramadan, including households headed by widows, people with disabilities, and those without regular income.
Beneficiaries: 60 families
Impact:
The distribution ensured that 60 vulnerable families could participate in Ramadan without the fear of going hungry. It helped parents provide for their children, supported elderly and disabled household members, and reduced the stress and stigma associated with not being able to host or share meals during this important month.
