In the remote village of Sammon Rind, located in tehsil Chachro, Tharparkar, approximately 480 km from Karachi, a silent crisis is unfolding. Nearly all of the 3,000+ residents suffer from severe spinal deformities, leaving them unable to stand upright. The cause of their suffering? The only available drinking water is contaminated with arsenic, toxic levels of fluoride, and salts.

This heartbreaking situation is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of endemic water pollution on vulnerable communities. Without access to clean water, the health and future of these villagers remain at risk.

The Crisis

  • Arsenic and Fluoride Poisoning: Prolonged consumption of contaminated water leads to skeletal fluorosis, a debilitating condition that causes bones to become brittle and deformed.
  • Salt Contamination: High levels of salts in the water exacerbate health problems, including kidney damage and hypertension.
  • Lack of Alternatives: With no other water sources, the villagers have no choice but to drink the polluted water, perpetuating the cycle of suffering.
